Sabancı University Quantum Photonics Systems Laboratory (QPSLab) has been awarded funding under QuantERA 2025 for its project “AL FreSQO: Atom-Light Free-Space Quantum Optics Networking”. With this achievement, Sabancı University became the only institution from Türkiye to receive support under the QuantERA 2025 call.

The project will involve Sabancı University doctoral students Baha Gencay Işıkdoğan and Tuna Özdür, along with Physics Program faculty members Prof. Dr. Zafer Gedik, Assoc. Prof. Göktuğ Karpat, and Assoc. Prof. Serkan Ateş.
The QPSLab team has been working on hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) based single-photon sources and their applications for many years. AL FreSQO, the second QuantERA project to receive support following the COMPHORT project which started in 2023, combines this expertise with quantum memories. In this project, which will develop critical components necessary for quantum networks, the Sabancı University team will conduct studies on the integration of hBN-based single-photon sources, which they will develop, into quantum memories using quantum frequency converter interfaces.
